Smoothie Vibes
No corporation. One kitchen.

Behind the
Vibes.

Smoothie Vibes is a collection of recipes, not a brand with a marketing department. Every recipe was blended, drunk and only then written down. Whatever did not taste good is not in it.

Because recipes are allowed to be simple.

Search online for a smoothie and you usually end up on one of two kinds of page. Either a recipe with fourteen ingredients, five of which have to be ordered in. Or a promise — everything the smoothie is supposed to do, before anyone has said what actually goes into it.

Neither helps anyone who simply wants to switch the blender on at seven in the morning. So we started writing it down differently: five or six ingredients you can get in an ordinary supermarket. Quantities that are right. An order that works. And one sentence about what it tastes like — nothing more is needed.

Four rules

What we hold ourselves to

Every recipe has to stand up to these four sentences before it goes on the site.

Real ingredients only

Fruit, vegetables, nuts, milk or a plant drink. No recipe needs a powder, an extract or anything that has to be ordered in first.

Quantities that are right

Grams and millilitres instead of “a handful”. Blending it for the first time should not involve guessing — and the second time should give you the same result.

Everything freely available

No sign-up, no forced newsletter, no half an ingredient list that only opens once you hand over an email address. Recipes are there to be cooked.

No promises

Nowhere here will you read what a smoothie supposedly heals, detoxes or burns off. We talk about taste, ingredients and method. Everything beyond that belongs in other hands than ours.

Four or five attempts

How a recipe comes about

Between the first idea and the finished entry there are usually four or five goes. The route is the same for every recipe.

1 Idea and shopping

It usually starts with an ingredient that is in season — and the question of what goes well with it.

2 Blend, taste, change

Too sweet, too thin, not sharp enough: almost every recipe needs several goes before the quantities are right.

3 Writing it down

Only when the same thing comes out twice in a row does the ingredient list get written down — with quantities, not handfuls.

4 Onto the site

Every recipe gets its own page with a picture, a method and one honest sentence about what it tastes like.

A word on my own behalf

Who does the blending

There is no team and no editorial staff behind Smoothie Vibes, just Michael Pfisterer from Flein near Heilbronn. It started a few years ago with a blender that stood around in the kitchen and hardly got used. At some point it simply stayed out on the worktop in the morning — and since then a glass fairly often replaces breakfast.

The first attempts were all far too thin. A smoothie you drink like juice is not one: what is missing is something frozen, and something creamy. Small things like that are written next to every recipe here, because they make the difference and are missing from most instructions. My own favourite is the Mango Fresh — mango, orange, banana, carrot and a hazelnut-sized piece of ginger. You can barely taste the carrot; the ginger provides the heat at the end.

If you like a recipe, if one does not work out, or if you are missing a kind: write to me. Almost every piece of feedback so far has turned into a new recipe.
